Next on our Meet the Team series, we're chatting to our Web Developer, Ross.
Who are you? What do you do?
I'm Ross and I am a Web Developer here at Polar. I create and look after all of our websites and manage all things digital.
Describe yourself in 3 words?
Relaxed, Techy, Wind-up
Tell us something that we don’t already know?
Growing up I had the opportunity to live in Germany & America due to my Dad's job taking us overseas.
What did you want to be growing up?
Either a Professional Footballer or, failing that, a Pilot.
Where is the best place that you have ever been?
Maui in Haiwaii
What is the favourite part of your job?
It's difficult to choose just one aspect of my job that I enjoy the most. I like solving problems and finding the best solution. It's also rewarding to take a design and bring it to life as an interactive digital experience. Overall, I love the creative and technical challenges that come with my role.
How did you get started in the industry?
I studied journalism at University and part-way through realised that wasn't the direction I wanted to go in, but as part of my degree we created a website and this sparked my interest in website design & development.
I learned as much as I could in my free time and after a few years, I started offering web services as a Freelancer.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out?
I would say there has never been a better time to focus on developing your craft and improving your skills. There are so many great resources available online, such as YouTube, that offer valuable content for anyone interested in learning design or digital skills.
As you're learning then the best advice I can give is to try and gain as much real-world experience as you possibly can.
Always go above and beyond and you'll go far.
