The Baddow Brewery is an endless source of inspiration and a key cog in the Polar journey.
The Brewery was founded in 1798 by John Crabb, who came to Great Baddow from Hitchen in Herts.
The brewery building was constructed in 1868 with handsome moulded polychromatic brick and terracotta decoration. Once the raw ingredients of beer (including the water which came from a 300' well in the rear courtyard) were hoisted up to the top of the building and the beer flowed down pipes to the floor below. A top floor and gable have been demolished, as well as the chimney, but most of the brewery remains.
After 5 years on the lower ground floor, the Polar team moved upstairs to the 1,600-square-foot office in January 2022.
Next time you’re in the office, check out the exposed pipes in which the barley and hops were once poured. And perhaps one day, we will be crafting Polar beer here in the studio!
